Ballina Staff Honoured
Two Woollam Constructions’ staff have been honoured by their local community for going above and beyond the call of duty. The NSW Fire Brigade recently presented Ballina employees Ben Williams and Tim Daffy with plaques of appreciation for their outstanding work on the Brunswick Heads Fire Station.
Woollams refurbished the dilapidated fire station during a two month project which transformed the facility into a larger and more contemporary fire protection base for the local firemen. The makeover involved gutting the building and adding a second level. The rejuvenated two-storey station now features two bathrooms, two toilets, a new locker room, uniform room and a new kitchen. Ben and Tim took over the job following some initial work on the project by the previous foremen Steve Carlaw and Neil Mannion.
The plaques were presented to Ben by the station’s captain and vice captain during a thank-you ceremony held at the station on the last day of the project. “It was a great result for us...Because the station was still in operation during the refurbishment we had to ensure the firemen still had easy access to all their equipment and clothing if they had to attend an emergency call out” Ben said. The end result was the delivery of a product Woollam’s and the fire service were extremely happy with. It was case of having to work cohesively around the fire station’s schedules.
